Welcome from the Principal

My name is Racheal-Ann Björk and I am proud to have successfully led Internationella Engelska Skolan in Älvsjö through our first academic year 2016-2017.

What was once an empty shell has become an educational institution of exceptional standards, with students and staff members who share a common passion, respect and commitment to excellence. We opened our doors in August 2016 with 376 students. This August we are happy to welcome approximately 224 more, bringing our total to 600 students.

I am originally from Trinidad & Tobago in the Caribbean and a resident of Sweden for the past 14 years. I live on Ekerö with my husband and two sons. My teaching career began in Östersund in 2007, where I taught French, English and Mathematics in grades 7-9.  In August 2009 my family moved to Ekerö and I began teaching Advanced English and Mathematics at gymnasium level. It was not until January 2010 that my career at Internationella Engelska Skolan took off. First, in Täby, and shortly thereafter in Bromma as the Head of Mathematics Department and First Teacher (förstelärare).  Under my guidance, the team improved the grade 9 results in Mathematics at the school several years running. In 2014, I was afforded the opportunity to be a part of the start-up of IES Liljeholmen where I worked as Academic Manager and Assistant Principal.

Internationella Engelska Skolan is about quality: high-quality education, high-quality educators, high standards.

My vision for IES Älvsjö is value and quality in everything that we do:

  • to empower my staff to be the best educators they can be, in an environment that is conducive to teaching and learning.
  • to encourage my students to excel and to want to achieve the very best that they can achieve.
  • to forge the bond of togetherness and ownership at our school, creating a warm welcoming atmosphere of acceptance for all.

Teachers are of paramount importance; “good teachers know how to bring out the best in their students”. Rest assured that no stone will be left unturned in my pursuit of the very best teachers for IES Älvsjö.

Our school houses all necessary amenities including a library, science labs, woodwork and textiles rooms, and a fully functional kitchen. This means that all meals are prepared at the school, and breakfast is included (Tuesday-Friday) for all students and staff members.

A new term soon begins with new challenges, new students and new staff. We are all prepared and excited to give our very best to this coming academic year. “The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little ‘extra’!”

We welcome you all to us at IES Älvsjö in August!
